About

From a folder of files to something people can use.

Many organizations are sitting on years of data that never gets looked at. A 2020 IDC survey for Seagate found that 68% of the data available to businesses goes unused.

Source: IDC for Seagate, Rethink Data (2020), a survey of 1,500 enterprise leaders.

In practice that means spreadsheets nobody opens, customer records no one has analyzed, and research that exists only as PDFs.

Core practice areas

How I work

Every project starts with the raw material. I read the records, check the metrics, and look at the datasets underneath before I design anything.

  1. 01

Exploratory data analysis & data storytelling

I explore the data before deciding what it says.

I build interactive tools where teams, funders, and the public can query expenditure, research, and operational data themselves. Each one is built around a single question, with the method and the limits of the data shown next to the chart. The Speed of News follows how long it took news of eleven events to reach American readers between 1799 and 2023.

    • Interactive data stories
    • Public data portals
    • Impact reports
  2. 02

    Knowledge architecture

Your documents, searchable in plain language, and kept private.

I structure internal documents and repositories into private search that answers questions and points back to its sources. Underneath it is a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system on a vector database, run in an environment you control.

    • Private document search
    • Structured research environments
    • Local model deployments
  3. 03

    Agentic automation

Repetitive tasks that run on their own.

I write Python pipelines that take over repetitive jobs like pulling, cleaning and filing records, and voice agents that answer calls and collect intake details. This returns time to the work people are actually invested in.

Studio & art

Where the studio meets the art

Alongside my data practice, I work with film, photography, and charcoal. The work explores atmospheric landscapes, fog, motion blur, and figures in transitional spaces, with themes of impermanence, isolation, and close observation.

Data systems and fine art might look like opposites, but they depend on the same habits of attention. Both mean sitting with something chaotic or still, filtering out the noise, and holding a moment or a pattern open until its essential structure becomes clear.

Clients

Who I work with

  • Non-profits & foundations

Interactive impact reporting, public data portals, and AI workflows that return administrative time to core programs.

  • Research & academic institutions

Research data visualization, public data tools, and technical presentation systems.

  • Public-sector programs

Custom data querying systems for public policy, healthcare, and justice initiatives.

  • Established businesses

Data systems redesign, operational analytics, and automated workflows for growing organizations.

Client experience

Working with Alex was a genuinely collaborative process. He took time to understand not only what I do, but why I do it. The result is a platform that supports real business and career growth.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What services do you provide?
Applied data science, interactive data visualization and query tools, private knowledge architecture (retrieval-augmented generation on vector databases), and agentic workflow automation. Every project starts with the data an organization already has.
How do engagements work?
Every engagement starts with a conversation, to see whether we are a good fit. From there we work together directly, on a single project or a subscription basis, to scope, build, and deploy custom data infrastructure and interactive tools.
Where are you based?
Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain. I work with clients globally.
What is data storytelling?
Data storytelling combines analysis, visual design, and narrative so people can see what a dataset says and why it matters. The result is usually an interactive piece that a funder, journalist, or member of the public can explore without opening a spreadsheet.
What is a private RAG system?
Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) lets an AI model answer questions from your own documents instead of general web knowledge. A private version runs in an environment you control, so sensitive files never go to a public chatbot, and answers can point back to the passage they came from.
